Aby Floyd

Aby Floyd (b. 1996) is a UK-based fine artist whose ornate, otherworldly, sculptural paintings explore materiality and figurative, dream-like narratives. Since graduating with an honours degree in fine art at Wimbledon UAL (University of the Arts London), she has sold work both in the UK and internationally.

My work consists of oil paintings, either on ornate, sculpted wood panels or canvas, that transform imagination into tangible form. A sculpted panel work begins as a drawing and evolves through an intricate process of cutting, filing, sculpting and painting wooden shapes in both oil and acrylic. These individual elements are assembled into layered compositions, finished with varnish, resin, and various embellishments to create richly textured work that occupy a space between painting, sculpture, and theatrical object. My canvas works likewise extend beyond the flat surface, often incorporating sculptural elements that project into the viewer’s space.
