Marie Louise Wrightson
A Scottish based independent artist of 20 years who studied fine art, ( Drawing and Painting), at Duncan of Jordanstone School of Art in Dundee, Scotland, gaining a BA(hons) & Masters in Fine Art in 2005.
I use traditional techniques in oil paint and Gold Leafing, know as Water Gilding. Know for my whimsical and luxurious paintings inspired by fairy tales, curious characters, Celtic and Norse Mythology & Lore. My works shimmer not just with imagination, but also literal precious Gold and Silver leaf. One of the most striking features in many of my pieces is the glowing brilliance of water gilding, a centuries old technique I have hopefully brought into my contemporary paintings.
I began to develop a passion for art through my love of old children’s picture books, as a child with a complex array of dyslexic traits, I was captivated by the beautiful illustrations of Arthur Rackham, John Tenniel and Kate Greenaway and later on fell in love with the Pre-Raphaelites, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Ford Madox Brown and Elizabeth Siddal. As a young girl who struggled with dyslexia, the world of picture book illustrations and paintings was a visual and integral way to interpret these stories and the world around me.
My painting’s can be found in St Andrews Museum, The Stirling Smith Museum collection and I also have many works in private collections both nationally and internationally.
