There is something unsettling and magnetic about the work of Jaky La Brune. Born in Toulon and trained at the prestigious Gobelins School in Paris, the artist now splits her time between Paris and Berlin, building a body of work that feels less like art-making and more like confession. Her figures twist and burn across paintings, sculptures, and costumes, distorted by desire, fractured by feeling, saturated in colors so vivid they seem to pulse with life and pain in equal measure.
La Brune turns her own interior life into raw material, treating each work like an act of autopsy on the human soul. The bodies she renders are grotesque and ecstatic, violent and tender, caught in moments of extreme emotional tension that most art would rather look away from. She does not look away.
