Interview with Ceramic Artist Ryoko Rio

Where Are You From?

Originally from Japan. Currently I live in the US.

Where do you long to live (reality or fantasy)?

A planet where there are no wars, you can live peacefully with a lot of food and small animals.

If your artwork could come to life and interact with you, what kind of conversation would you have with it?

Pretty much the same conversations I have with my dog..lol

In what ways do you think your personal experiences and emotions shape the way you connect with your work?

My works are the expression of my sensitive self and the comfort that I receive from animals and some of my favorite stories. Sharing those feelings through my works helps me feel the sense of connection to the world.

Have you ever imagined your art as a time capsule—what do you think future generations would think of it?

They would say “The artist who made these sculptures must have really loved animals!” I imagine that they would think of the timelessness of the love and the special connection between humans and animals.
