I believe social media has changed more than just how we digest art, it has changed how contemporary artists make art. For myself, a lot of my pieces are about what it’s like to exist in this social media landscape. They’re about being “seen” and laying one’s self bare for others, being connected but still feeling alone and unfulfilled.
I purposefully omit nipples and other nudity, or try to censor myself often because it’s social media ready and also an artifact in a way of the reality of our time.
It’s a strange time of anxiety about what’s on the horizon, connections to people that we never see- which is represented by the cords that lead off to nowhere- and a dawn of an almost Neo- religious age of strong opinions on the internet, hence the halos.
I always aim to ask questions with my work more than express an opinion.
What does it say to you?
